1. Ok so I finally decided to go clipless.

First of all I wanted to apologize to all the people I was asking about the safety of the system in this forum as it apparently is not as dangerous as I thought it to be. I had about 6 rides so far and even once when I forgot that I was clipped on the pedals and stoped to look around for direction and I almost fell. -even then- the cleat dissengaged and I did not hit the ground...

It does make a big difference IMO as you somehow get the "double'' stamina in a ride, or so it appears to me as once you get tired of "pushing" down the crank, you can start "lifting" up and still go on... But I just came back from a trip to a village where it kinda was cycling - licious because of low traffic and no traffic lights to the city.

I had a ride today and I needed to engage and dissengage the pedals about 30 times in a 20km ride inside the city.

You think there is a point cycling clipped in the city? Or do you just dont bother clipping since you know you are gonna have to un-clip the pedals after a few meters and just ride without using the system? Once you clip the pedals its ok but it still takes me a while to correctly position the pedals for engaging them with the cleats and doing that every 5 minutes is a bit tedious...

    Thanks.

  2. Clips keep my feet from flying off the pedals when I hit a pothole that slipped my attention. Clips allow me to vault the same pothole (if needed) when it's noticed ahead of time. Generally, I feel safer when attached to the bike. YMMV.

  3. The "double stamina" claim is, well, ignorant at best. It's certainly supported by zero data. Clipping and unclippling are a doddle if you practice and ride more.
