What are some suggestions regarding clipless pedals for my wife's comfort bike.
She has a set of mountain bike shoes (2 hole mount).

She's a newbie on the bike and is apprehensive about clipping in as opposed to platform pedals without any clips.
She'll get started on the platforms and then hopefully more into it and on to real pedals.
I'd like a pedal that is easy to clip in and out without looking.
The bike is an older Rockhopper w/ slicks and will be ridden on paved paths.

I've used the standard SPD's for mountain.
How are the Crank Brothers Smarty pedals?

The issue is not which is a good clipless pedal, but which one will your wife use. As she has no experience with them, her feelings as to which ones to use may be completly different to yours.

If possible get her down to a local bike shop where there is a female who can serve her and have her pick the pedals.

Failing that, why don't you get conventional pedals that include a cleat, she can use them without the cleat and then put the cleat on later.
