Clothing: Mtn Bike Shorts

Since re-entering cycling last year, I've been "informalizing" my (road) bike, and I've been thinking about cycling clothing in the same way. I've ridden a few times in baggy Bermuda shorts but find that when I re-mount the bike from a standover position, the crotch snags the saddle nose. So I've gone back to lycra road shorts and of course that solves the problem. I'm wondering about mtn bike shorts. They look good, but do they snag? It would be good to know before I invest $40 plus on some. I'll probably stay with the synthetic jerseys as I like their wicking capability and always found that I was cool while moving, even in the humid summers here in Washington DC. So any shared experiences with these shorts (and specific recommendations) would be welcome.

They do, but not often. The fabric of the outer shell will be the determining factor. I like the additional pockets (zipped and deep regular) that the shell offers; handy for keys, phone, etc.

That pretty much describes how I ride here in the somewhat humid summers near Chicago.

With road bike shorts I like the tight kind. I feel they are really comfortable and wick moisture away second to none and have really good padding. However, I am not a fan of wearing tights so I generally put on a pair of athletic shorts like the really thin under armour ones.
