Would you believe this?
After 5 years of riding unicycles up to 29", reading lots of
information on Cokers, dreaming many dreams about Cokers, making a
page on the rollout length of the Coker wheel and meddling with
countless RSU threads on Cokers, I finally saw my first Big One
yesterday!
Not only that but I got to ride it too :-). And I must admit:
everything they say is true. The wheel inertia, the slow starting and
stopping, the majestic feeling (and sight) of riding on the Coker
unicycle. It's even true that I shouldn't worry about the freemount -
which I've done a lot as forum oldies may remember. I freemounted on
my fourth try - well I got on on the second attempt but rode less than
three revulutions. And while 4 miles is of course not enough to get a
full impression, the Coker rides effortlessly. I experienced what
people mean by the famous Coker cruise control. John, one of the few
Coker owners in The Netherlands, rode my 29'er and was peddling like
mad to keep up. For the record: we both were on 125 mm cranks.
Meanwhile, I won't buy a Coker (yet?). I got word from Schlumpf that
my guni will be delivered next month, and it was stated as a definite
promise this time. Let's see how that rides, freemounts,
cruise-controls etc. But I'm sure glad that I'll have at least SOME
comparison to the classic benchmark for distance unicycling!
