  1. We ended up making Cold Oven Pound Cake for Sunday night dessert. There were
strawberries at 2 pounds for 99 cents this weekend so they were the perfect
accompaniment, sliced and sugared then tossed with some Grand Marnier. A
generous dollop of fresh whipped cream finished it off for serving. The 12
year old did well following the recipe and with just a little help it came
    out perfectly.

What's your favorite pound cake recipe??

Here's my family's recipe to share:

    Cold Oven Pound Cake

    ½ c butter

    ½ c Crisco

    3 cups sugar

5 large eggs or 6 small eggs

    1 ¼ milk

    3 cups plain flour (sifted)

½ tsp baking powder (add last)

    1 tsp vanilla extract

    ½ tsp lemon extract

    ½ tsp almond extract

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream butter and Crisco slowly and
sugar and cream well. Add eggs one at a time. Blend in flour and milk
alternating the two. Mix well. Add flavoring. Sprinkle baking powder in and
stir gently. Pour into a well greased and floured tube pan.

Do not preheat the oven. Put in oven, set temp at 350, bake an hour and
fifteen minutes. Do not open the oven while baking.
