  1. Currently using Bontrager Connection Trail, 26x2.0" tyres.

I do a daily 30 minutes commute on road/cycle path, but includes some 50 yards off road on some
muddy path. Could someone recommend some hybrid or good enough road tyres from:
    evanscycles.comdept.jsp and
    evanscycles.comdept.jsp

The thing is it looks like there are not that many 26" tyres! I want the "best" compromise between a
fast ride on road/cycle path and a safe/easy ride on the muddy paths.

I have Specialized Crossroads on my MTB, inflated to 80psi - these seem to roll well, but they
    are heavy.

88% of helmet statistics are made up, 65% of them at Washington University

  3. Would I not expect faster ride with Road/Hybrid tyres with smoother tracks on roads/cycle paths
though? (Obviously, how well these would do on the 50 yards of muddy paths is another question- in
fact, would they burst if I do it regularly?)

The Crossroads is a gnarly with a hard centre ridge - at 80psi it rolls well on tarmac, and will get
through mud if required. For sustrans paths and the like a good touring tyre is fine - Conti Top
Touring is much favoured by tandemists, but in Actual Mud they don't work well at all. So it depends
on the muddiness of the muddy path and the overall significance of the 50 yards, I guess.

If your commute takes 1/2 an hour, then for the sake of 50 whole yards (which you can push or
portage), why compromise? Why be sub-optimal for 29.5 minutes for the sake of being slightly less
    optimal for 30 seconds?

Go the whole hog, and slap on some Specialized FatBoys. Your increased speed on the road and cycle
path will easily offset your decreased speed on the muddy 50 yard section.
