Well I've done it ............ Ive paid my deposit on a nice flat in Lake District of said town in May and I'm building an itinerary
Ive done Wetherlam past levers water and coniston old man on the other side of valley plus ive done White Maiden and Walna Scar. Becon Tarn comes back to me as well
Can anyone recommend any decent walking in the area not to miss that Ive already mentioned.

Dow Crag would get a thumbs up from me. Walna Scar Road -> Brown Pike -> Buck Pike -> Dow Crag and maybe the Old Man again makes a nice circular.

Well if the weather is that bad the Gondola may not be running. Worth a trip though for the half hour or so that it takes. Ruskin museum is also quite interesting and will fill a couple of hours, maybe longer in May since the gardens will be worth visiting at that time of year too, if you like that sort of thing.

Well if the weather is that bad the Gondola may not be running. Worth a trip though for the half hour or so that it takes.
I prefer Coniston Launches. They run on 2 different routes, the Southern trip being much longer and going to the far end of the lake. They point out interesting features and wildlife, and give a little history. They also do themed cruises, such as Swallows and Amazons, or Campbell. In May they have evening cruises on Tuesdays.
