Rans posted a suggestion for the setup of your steering, which I tried.

Bein a typical recumbent rider, I wanted to tinker with an already good thing.
I did the flip of the steering column as indicated and found a lot of complications on my
RANS rockets.
1) The cable housings were too short at the top of the steering column. That mean longer housing and
a longer rear brake and derailler cable. Recumbent length cables were hard to find. (I had to go
down to Urbane Cyclist, which a few people we just at yesterday.)
2) You still have to swap your grips around.
