I often read about cyclists taking forms of cortisone or corticoids...which is a corticosteroid. I was wondering if anyone knew what benefits these athletes gained from these medicines since they are not your traditional types of performance enhancers such as anabolic pro hormones, EPO, or HGH?

It's primary use is as an anti-inflammatory agent, an additional benefit as far as athletes are concerned is it helps the body to more efficiently metabolism protein and carbohydrate.

Agree with the bit about being anti-inflammatory but not so sure about the metabolic benefits you suggested. In fact, corticosteroids promote muscle catabolism, fat depostion and insulin-resistance, particularly in bigger doses.
