Does anyone have any direct experience with using any counterfeit pharmaceutical?
I know that in the US the FDA is now very concerned with this topic and are working on means to track a number of likely counterfeited items from cradle to grave. The issues are, of course, many and as a counterfeit may be simply a placebo (harmless) to a toxic substance wrapped in a well known brand name or even an expired medication that has been relabeled.
I hear that in some countries the percentage of counterfeits is more than 40% of the market and is not confined to main line pharma but to all those items sold in health food stores etc.
Anyone have any more data that elaborates on what is on the FDA website[www.fda.gov]?
Noted in a television news piece about Sunday May 2. That a local user (local = Boston MA area) was finding an anti cancer drug ineffective; and it turned out, the drug was diluted x20 but appeared to be sold in a canonically correct package. The story went on to say, pharmaceuticals were so profitable the Mob was getting in to the business.
Speaking of which, wasn't I hearing just recently about how us people have to be protected from fake and faulty imported drugs? By our very own U.S. Government's FDA? ??
