  1. First I want to say a disclaimer that the trick mentioned
    below was in no way invented first by me, and probably has a
    better name, just I don't know it.

    Does anyone else ever find themselves doing large gaps up
    into crankgrabs? Have you ever seen it done on objects of
    equal height, or is that just stupid? I find I can gap
    farther if the landing point is about 18" higher than the
    takeoff. I do this exclusively seat out, and then go seat in
    for going up to rubber. I also find that I can gap farther
    if I gap with a 20-30 degree angle of the wheel towards the
    object, rather than a straight lateral gap. Please, anyone
    with experience in this area, post your musings on it. I've
    seen videos of both Kris (unizaba trailer) and Ryan (can be
    found in his gallery) doing these gaps, so I know I'm not
    the first, or the only one. Also, could someone please post
    the real name for the aforementioned trick?

  2. I do this fairly often, usually if the gap is too large to
    go to rubber on. This is useful in many situations, but can
    be a little tricky to land with all the sideways momentum. I
    think this a also a very good way to test the bearings in
    one's pedals.

    As far as i know this doesn't have a specific name. If i'm
    describing it to someone, i'll usually say "I gapped into a
    pedal grab" or say, "maybe i could do that gap into a pedal
    grab" but i don't there is any correct terminology.

    As far as gapping flat things into pedal grabs, this is
    quite hard to make practical, but certainly feasable. I find
    as the horizontal distance increases, so does the difficulty
    upon landing of staying on the unicycle.

    As for taking off on a 30 dgree angle, I usually do this,
    i'm not sure why, but untill this Sunday i thought you
    could get more distance this way, but now i'm not so sure.
    I guess it is simply which technique you devellop the most.
    If there is a high injury possibility, i'll usually angle
    the wheel, because there's less chance of it slipping off
    when you take off.

    This is just what i've found, i'd be interested in seeing
    other people's opinions on this matter.

    I know what you mean about the pedals, mine always come
    loose after a few of these. Also, I find that slipping is a
    bigger problem for a crankgap then normal, but I don't know
    why. How do you keep from just flying off the uni when you
    land? I've tried many things, but the only the works is to
    scrub my tire against the object before my crank/pedal makes
    contact, but that's dificult because I have to be sure that
    I get my uni positioned correctly. I also wanna try doing a
    gap with a 45 degree angle, and hope that the front of my
    wheel will make the landing easier.

  4. Keeping from flying off the uni is definatly hard, but you
    have to kind of lean all your weight onto the pedal grabbing
    pedal, and almost push down on the seat, i guess it's hard
    to explain, and usually takes a few tries before i don't
    fall off. It's a very fine balance of momentum, unicycle
    angle, and body weight position, and It is just made a more
    and more fine balance, as the gap size increases.

  5. Do you ever find yourself hooking your right foot
    (specifically your toe) on the rim to keep the uni in
    control and so as not to tip over? I find myself doing that
    on most of my pedal grabs (the first part, I can't go to
    rubber from only my pedal, so any advice would be nice,
    hint, hint).
