Hi folks,

I'm planning a little cycling expedition in a few weeks that’ll last for about three or four days. I'm trying to figure out the best way to enjoy a back-country cycling trip while also being able to carry minimal camping equipment along the way.

Do any of you guys/girls have any recommendations on the best way to accomplish this? Is a trailer the best option, or is there unique camping equipment that caters to such a trip?

Your expertise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Josh

How much do you want to carry?

What type of camping are you looking to do?

Backpacking on a mountain bike?

Riding to a spot on forest service roads and doing day trips from there?

What time of year and weather do you expect to deal with?

How much do you want to carry?

As little as possible. Maybe very little space for some food that I'll pick up along the way, but I don't plan on ever carrying more than packaged "quick foods" like granola, Cliff bars, jerky, etc.

Other than some simple foods, I'd only really need (I think) some sort of tent or sleeping structure, athletic clothing and undergarments,

What type of camping are you looking to do?

Mostly just overnight until I get back on the bike.

Backpacking on a mountain bike?

No, this would not be mountain biking; strictly road cycling. I do not own a mountain bike and do not plan on purchasing one.

Riding to a spot on forest service roads and doing day trips from there?

Yes - this would mostly be my approach.

What time of year and weather do you expect to deal with?

Late August or early-to-mid September.
