Cycling in China is a raw experience.
It has the ability to revolt and delight you within a few kilometers.
As we cycled out of one village we passed by a crowd of men butchering a cow on the sidewalk. The whole village was watching, discussing the merits of different skinning techniques, while the dogs salivated waiting for *** bits and licking the blood from the pavement as it coagulated on its way down the storm water drain.
Further down the road a crowd of children coming home from school, dressed in white cotton shirts and blue shorts all shouted "hello" and waved madly as we rode past.
Stopping at a pull in for lunch a family stops and insists on having their photographs taken with us and giving us their email addresses. We spoke no Chinese and they no English, but it didn't matter. The warmth of their welcome to their country was clear and overwhelming.
We rode through spectacular scenery on sometimes diffiult roads but the experience was one not to forget.
