I was wondering if there is a cycling shoe that fits both road and mountain bike style cleats. The cycling shop I mentioned in another thread told me that it wasn't possible but I tend to not believe them...

Shimano makes a shoe that will take either SPD (2-screw) or delta-style (3-screw) cleats. I have a pair like that, not sure of the model, I got them used on eBay.

Yes! I can't believe your shop would say that. My Time road shoes fit both 2-bolt and 3-bolt cleats.

For many riders it's also a perfectly acceptable solution to use "MTB" shoes + cleats + pedals on road bikes too. What you lose when you're on the bike isn't much compared to what you gain off the bike.

I agree with the above. Until i got a great deal on a pair of nice Nike road shoes, I stuck to SPD style clips on all my bikes. Sure made life easy not worrying about switching cleats. You just want to get a really stiff soled shoe and that is all that should matter.
