A couple of years ago I remember a challenge race between
Spain's Martin Fiz (a world champion marathon runner) and US
postal cyclist Rubiera. The race was to be conducted up the
last 6 km of Angliru. The Angliru is reputedly the most
difficult paved climb used in pro cycling. The last 6 km was
choosen as this is the steepest part of this climb (so no
advantage to Rubiera) with gradients that go up to 22%.
Does anyone know if this race took place and what the
result was?
