  1. In the early 1970s a small boy plays on the best bicycle in the entire
world. He gathers immense speed down the big hill to the corner where
some loose chippings have gathered. He turns and slams on the front
brake and spins the bike round. Fantastic!

In 2006 a cynical curmudgeon rides the same colour bike around a
corner down a slight hill when a tractor suddenly reverses out of a
farm gate. Slams on the brake, loses the back end and spins right
    around. Eeek!

It's a message from the Gods of Cycling that you're taking life too
seriously. Rediscover the inner child (preferably while riding a
    bike), and all that.

There's one of those BMX big-dipper tracks in a park in Derby which I
sometimes ride on my tourer if I'm passing and no-one's looking. Usually
after a visit to The Brunswick.

Brilliant fun, isn't it. You have to do your saddlebag up nice and tight to
    stop it rattling around, though.

Have a staircase on me. On a commuter bike with hub gears.

Bicycle helmets are really a bit of a scam.
They make most cyclists slightly less safe but there's money in selling them.
