(The roads in question are 30 mph residential roads although Spencefield
Lane is arterial by default).

And other bad news (sorry, no link):
A driver who lost his licence after rear-ending and killing the driver of a
car at the back of stationary traffic had his ban lifted under appeal.
He admitted driving on a wet road at 40 mph in a 30 zone and claims his foot
slipped off the brake pedal, bearing in mind his vehicle was a 4 x 4 with an
auto box which usually have larger brake pedals than manuals.
The defence claimed the victim was killed by timber he was carrying in his
car and had he not had the timber aboard he'd have survived.
The appeal judge felt a ban was too harsh for a minor driving mistake.

I can see where the judge was coming from, every day people have vehicle
shunts which result in bent tin, however in this case the appellant admitted
to driving at 40 mph on a wet road, which led to anothers death.
