Been listening on 774 (Melb) of how the Cyclone Larry Appeal hasn't really kicked off down here in the southern states. There's been several "reasons" given onair while we southerners aren't contributing etc, (no direct deaths, doesn't insurance cover this etc etc) but after the Call of the Wall ride last weekend, who's got ideas on how to help?

Think if you were a little kid up there, and the local school is open (just) and you can't use the playground due to pile of debris etc. Your house leaks, the fridge is stuffed, mum and dad have temporarily lost their jobs, virtually everything is damp or stinks and your bike got damaged in the storm. :(

Donate bikes, adopt a school or simply whip out the creditcard?

Riding from Melbourne to Innisfail somehow doesnt hold the same jene ce qas(?) somehow

PS was kinda amusing walking round Brizvegas last week seeing
"Qld - the smart state" everywhere...

Nice idea CFSMTB. I wonder how the Innisfail bike shop fared? There's a
very active cycling club there too. They used to come up to our races
in Cairns every now and again and give us a shake-up.

I've just been chatting to some mates up there. Community spirit is
fantastic, but it must be very tough, still living with no power, so
you can't keep food is perhaps worst of all.

Now there's an idea! This year's Cycle Queensland is Port Douglas to
Mission Beach, Saturday 9 September to Sunday 17 September 2006.

Have a fantastic time cycling, while supporting the northern folk after
Larry. The ride route is top-shelf!

Nup, Ipswich is just west of Brissie. The Innisfail club is not listed
on the Cycling Qld website or anywhere else I could google - maybe not
as active as it was. Here's the contact for the shop:
Innisfail Cycle & Sports Edith St Innisfail 4860 ph. 07 4061 1462

They are probably chainsawing their house into pieces at the moment.
I'll ask around.

Oh, how would that be? I suppose inability to ride that slowly? Not
sufficiently sociable? Too clever by far? Bony ****?

Adam, you should have hit him, to save Lotte having to go after him!
;-)

Hehehe - the last LA ride had Melbourne weather as well. FD would have
felt right at home...... *grins*

Cheers,
