Just to clarify - you don't need a Shimano 10-speed hub for a Shimano 10-speed cassette. The 10-speed cassette will fit a 9-speed hub, but not vice versa.

Are there Shimano 10-speed specific hubs?

The new 10 speed DA only take a shimano 10 speed cassette. Same spline pattern as the 8/9 but deeper.

Right; I forgot the updated group included a new hub model.

from shimanos website

5. Can I use my current 9-speed hubs with the new 10-speed cassette (CS-7800)?
Yes, any 9-speed Shimano free hub (FH) can accept the new cassette. A spacer (provided with the cassette) must be used for adaptation.

i was just wondering what the spacer is exactly, if the new 10 spd specific hubs deeper then why a spacer? just wondering, thanx.
