Dawes Galaxy modification (Yet again!)

To all the generous folk who advised me on aspects of this: the job is now done: straight bars/
riser stem/ Deore V-brakes and shifters/ new chain and cassette. Brakes , gears and everything work
to perfection. What comfort braking on long descents, compared to the previous set-up. RN
