Decreasing wind noise to minimum

Having a severe problem with my hearing, can't be exposered to any noise, but would like to cycle around. My problem is wind noise. Been using foam earplugs, but that's not enough. I would like to decrease wind noise as much as possible. Don't bother me not hearing traffic, cause I have a mirror on my bike. Bicyling with a road bike which doesn't go faster than 20kmh (12mph) is an option, but would like to ride faster on my road bike (driving around 30-35kmh (18-22mph)). That's to much noise for my ears. The problem is noise is continuous. Let's see facts: - Foam earplugs decrease noise for about 30db. Some experts say lab tests with 30db decrease in "real life" mean only 10-15db. Is there any better product for me? - Together with WindRush which decrease for 20-25db. http://www.windrushgear.com/index.php/site/headgear/ Looking the paragraph at this site my noise should be (together with foam earplugs) decreased for another 10 or 15db. Have anyone tried that before? Don't mind how looking on the bike. Is my thinking correct? Don't want to try it several times and damage my hearing while trying. Been looking these other product to: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/02/te...ones.html?_r=0 http://www.slipstreamz.com/order.asp What do you suggest me to do? Don't tell me hearing is important while driving. It is, but I can't affort that. For example: I never drive a car without foam earplugs!!!

Try an aero helmet? The ones used on Time Trials, and tapers to a point reaching down the back.

Slipstreamz, like their earlier failed attempt at emptying wallets "Foilers", are doomed. Same guy. Different iteration of the same product.

Their ad hook used to be, "Take a ride worth hearing about!".

Probably the best solution get so far. Bad thing is these helmets are very expensive. Should get some fake for cheap money. Anyone know where?

OK, let's see the shape of it on bottom link.

http://www.giro.com/eu_en/products/men/helmets/selector.html

But it's not enough?

Would put some padding on the inner side before the ears and parallel to them. That thick plastic won't be enough. The shape of helmet will press padding to my head and block the wind, which is very good. But don't know how to do that? Suggestions?

They can be pricey, but aero helmets are worth it if you have these issues. Some can be as low as $100. Usually above $150 though.

This one in probably much better cause it doesn't have space between the visor and helmet. Been looking some of those helmets. Some of them packed with visor and some doesn't (I definitely need a visior).

How low prices go for this fake one?

Don't mind paying 100$ for something that works!!!

I wear a simple headband over my ears in cold weather. I have worn both a headband and earplugs on cold windy rides and it cuts the noise down to a level that my breathing is about the loudest thing I hear.

Aero helmets work too, but you can look a like a tool using one for everyday riding. I picked up one for about $35 by watching the returned items at bike nashbar.

I was given a pair of cat ears to demo. When I put them on my helmet and modeled them for my wife, she said they made me look like a dork.

Some day when my ego isn't so fragile (and I won't mind looking like a dork to my wife), I'll give them a try.

Send them to me in Salt Lake and I will be happy to look dorky wearing them :)
