Dedicated cycle racing circuits

Dear British friends,

It is fairly common to hear of cyclists racing on motor
racing circuits, even in America. But now I hear
rumors of dedicated bike racing circuits in England,
that is, closed courses that are built for cyclists and not
autos. It is said that these courses have banked
turns, etc.--not velodromes, mind you, but road
courses. Is this true, or is it just another crazy
rumor to drive us leftpondians crazy?

thanks,
Robert

There are a few dedicated road cycle racing circuits in the UK -
Eastway in East London springs to mind, but this has just been closed
to make way for the 2012 Olympic Velodrome and Park. Hillingdon (west
London) is still open for business though.

Full list of facilities at:
http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/fac/facilities_search.asp
(set the Type to "Road Racing" for road only venues).

Most of the rest are motor racing circuits, but the Milton Keynes Bowl
(outdoor concert venue) is used 3 times a week in the Summer for road
racing.

Cheers
Bronzie

Thanks Bronzie. We have no such facilities left of pond.

plenty of cycling clubs in the Netherlands have their own training
track, some even with a /hill/! Two tracks were built in the fifties for
moped racing, but most are dedicated cycling courses

Charlie Riys, a race promoter of the 1960's took us out the Hilversum about
1966 to show us a 150m? outdoor velodrome built by the local club (and a
plasterer).
As he said "don't moan about lack of provision - build it yourself".
Anyone know about Charlie / the track / the club?
