If I remember correctly, derailleur capacity = nuber of teeth on biggest cog - number of teeth on smallest cog. -

For rear derailer how many teeth it wraps. For a given setup: (large chainring teeth - small chainring teeth) + (cassette largest cog - cassette smallest cog) = the wrap needed. For front derailer, the maximum tooth difference between smallest and largest chainrings. Capacities are often conservative.More so with some manufacturers like shimano, less so with campy.
