All of my bikes have been craigslisted steel framed 10 speeds of the 1970's. I am looking to upgrade to something more multi-functional and comfortable at a price range of under 700 (I'm starting medical school in a few months, so my price point is not moving).
I have gone to a few LBS and have been shown both the Diamondback insight 2 ($450)( http://www.diamondback.com/bikes-pavement-performance-hybrid-insight-2 )
as well as the Fuji absolute 1.5 ($600) ( http://www.fujibikes.com/bike/details/absolute-15 ).

I'm not looking to commute with it in all weather. I'm looking for something to ride recreationally, mostly on pavement but perhaps on dirt paths as well. Something that can take more terrain than my old road bikes.
I took them on test rides, both felt comfortable.

I just wanted to see what the opinions of some better versed cyclists would be.
