Did You Ride Today?

No ride today. I'm taking Corshen's advice that I shouldn't ride in pain. Actually, today is not my riding day. I will ride tomorrow but only do 40 or so. It will strictly be an interval/fartlek type of training ride. Then on either Saturday or Sunday, I will be doing a 200k training ride to prepare for the up and coming 200k on March 19.

I did 25 miles yesterday. I started my interval session but after a couple attempts, it wasn't happening. I spun up and over the "mountain" to the coffee shop and came back.

Getting old sucks. Recovery is weird. I just read Friel's "Fast Over 50"....a bit of a waste of time and $20. Here is the punchline...

1. Must keep doing hard efforts and intervals to delay aging
2. Recovery takes longer, thus a 7 day training schedule might need to be 10 days and your periodization schedule might also need to be elongated.

Fellow riders noticed how well I rode last Sunday so my hard training has paid off. They also noted that I pulled too long. I pulled too long because when I moved over nobody bothered to pull through, since I had discovered that I dropped the entire pack. Later, they would wait until I tired to catch up with me and blow past me. What are friends for?

I only had time for 12 miles and barely got them in before the rain hit. The last 3 miles were light drizzle and no sooner had I loaded the bike and climbed inside the real rain started. Right on queue and almost to the minute the WeatherUnderground Precipitation Start Time said it would!

It was a flat ride, but the building wind made it a little bit of work. Only 2 miles into it and working what I thought was easy enough into the wind, my heartrate hit 198! Holy Cold Front Headwind Gusts, Batman! I swear I was just cruising easy...not killing it at all.

The good thing was that it was 56 degrees! No balaclava, no shoe covers, light gloves, 2 light layers up top...it felt great to be out.

My heart rate never went past 194. Well, that was when I monitored my heart rate, but when my transmitter strap went down for the count, I never bothered to monitor my heart rate again. There is a direct relationship between the amount of tiredness I am experiencing and a high heart rate so I don't need to check my heart rate.

No ride for me. Just had sinus surgery and I feel as groggy as Bernie Sander's speech writer. Maybe by Friday I can do the trainer.

38F and 30+ mph. Too windy to shoot. I made the mistake of going out on the bike. My buddy farmer with half a head of teeth smiled, waved, and said be careful not to get blown off that bike today. I went 10 miles. Had a hard time holding like 5 mph into the wind was hard work plus a bit tired. No power meter today. **** was flying off trees. I never should

Bicycleman....I am not sure why but Rando pulls tend to be quite long. You know you are strong when you come off the front and you don't get two riders back and they are asking if you want back in. If I do that a few times and the front is easy, I just take the front and everyone can take it easy and chat. Usually most Randos round here like to ride 16-18 mph. If I am fit 19-20 mph is pretty easy for me and easy for most riders to sit in but I can't expect a 16-18 mph rider to take a pull. Sometimes I just go way slower to go along with everyone or sometimes just do the work.

Today my goal was to make it up to the high point without stopping. Mission accomplished! I looked at my time as I arrive and it said 2:13. Not bad! It did seem a little hotter today on the lower slopes. But once I was on GRR it was very nice, never cold but not hot. So I hit the high point and took a 11 minute break to mix some G and and down a Clif Bar.

So my stats were good! 5,026 ft gain, 38.7 miles, 11 minutes of break time and 18 PR's on Strava, all climbing PR's! :)

Not many riders at all today! I saw 3 coming down as I was approaching the shack, that was it! I didn't see one rider on GRR.

Once I got down to the bottom I still needed about 500 ft to hit 5,000 gain for the day. So I headed back up. Bummer! When I got down to the bottom I reached down to drink what was left of my Gatorade but my bottle was gone! Darn it! I rode about a mile back up to reach my goal but no bottle. I thought about leaving it and counting it a loss but that is my go to bottle ha ha! So after I packed up the bike I drove up and found it at the 4 mile ridge. Good thing it rolled off the the side. I was worried I'd find it flat as a pancake but I lucked out ha ha!

After the first 4200 ft of gain, break time!

Thanks for saving me $20. After 44 years of doing the bike game, I think I got a handle on what makes me go and what makes me slow.

And yeah, getting old just plain sucks.

I think I'm going shooting in the woods today.....rifles and handguns. Wind is brutal this morning. 30-40 mph.

Probably going to be my pre-trainer plan tonight also. I walk out the back door and hike down the hill into the woods with the old, reliable S&W 22A strapped on my hip while there's some daylight left.

We had heavy rain yesterday from around 5 PM until 10 PM. The wind gusts were over 40 MPH right up through 2 AM last night...kept waking me up with the roar through the trees. Now the ground is white with just a little beter than a dusting this morning with another 1"-3" on tap for tomorrow. Yay...

That's awesome! Nice job!

25 degrees right now in Ohio with light snow on and off all day. 47 Minutes on the trainer today after walking the perimeter of the property.

Just had sinus surgery...

I could have done the ream & clean for like $50 if you sterilized the drill bit for my Milwaukee cordless.
on Midwest Blvd., between Memorial and 122nd St.

I feel as groggy as Bernie Sander's speech writer.

That's funny ****, right there!

The neighbor is sporting a shiny new "Trump" yard sign. I'll have to ask where he got it and snag a few.

Believe it or not, I cycle by a guy's house that's had his "Romney/Ryan sign in the yard since 2012. It's really faded, but every time I see him in the yard I yell something like, "It won't be long now!". I'm still surprised Civil War Mk. II has not broken out. Let the welfare class have their own country. They'll soon be begging to rejoin the Republic...

Since the procedure involved the Ethmoid sinuses I think a diamond bit would be in order considering the close proximity of the Cranium and the possibility of damaging the drill bit. I might actually suggest a Dremel with a polishing attachment. As far as Romney I think he needs to STFU, he had his chance and didn't have balls to make a stand of most anything.

Romney was a...LOSER!

And still a better choice than Zero. I held my nose and voted for both McStain and Romney.

It was a cold 19° this morning, but it's 29° and sunny right now. It's headed for a high of 39° this afternoon. That would be perfect for a short sprint around the local farm roads except for the snow that is moving across my radar screen.

We'll see...

I went out and did 46 miles this morning. It was 30 degrees when I left and wind blowing up a storm. Fortunately, I had a nice tail wind going out and average 16+ when I got to the turn around point at the Merchants Mill Pond museum. Determined not to be pushed around by the wind, I stayed in the big ring and powered up to 16 and 17 for all I was worth. I remember before I got on the little ring kick that I was a lot faster. I use the big ring for tail winds, downhill runs, and it's just as good to use it into a head wind and up a hill if you are on a training ride designed to increase muscle mass, and that's what I try to do on these fast fartlek/interval rides.

Don't believe a damn thing Romney says. He's a lying piece of ****, who is marching to the beat of the Republican Socialist Party. My daddy is turning over in his grave now to think that his beloved party has sunk so low. Back in 2012 Romney thanked Trump for endorsing his candidacy and mentioned that Trump was a better man than he. Now, he turns against the man, who endorsed his Presidency. With friends like Romney, you don't need any enemies.

I hate the Republican Party. I am a right wing conservative, who joins no party but leans toward the Tea Party. Rubio was a Tea Party candidate, but he doesn't deserve to be a candidate for Captain of the Latrine.

Nice! I haven't heard anyone use 'fartlek' in a few years.

That's how I train all the time because it sure beats my old regimented training of going out on a certain tree-lined road and riding one mile intervals for as fast and hard as I could. It got very boring. That's why I just go out now and ride. I enjoy the ride and pepper that ride with harder efforts up hill or into headwinds. I'm better for it. Besides, that term makes new cyclists look it up, unless they figure I just go out cycling to fart, and that's why I come back so refreshed. :D

Man, that global warming is tough.

I just got in from a quick 12-miler. 38 degrees when I climbed on and 32 degrees when I climbed off. There was a light snow falling from start to finish, but nothing was sticking. Not really a 'sprint'. Just moderate tempo riding over pretty flat terrain.

The only traffic was the Yoder-Toters bringing the Amish construction workers home from just doing the jobs for fifteen bucks an hour / no bennies that American English don't want to do.

Thankfully, the measurable snow stayed North of my area this time.

And somebody slap that jackass, Romney, upside his empty skull. I still can't believe I was forced to vote for that douchebag.

Trump held multiple fund raisers in his Manhattan apartment for Romney. Hundreds of people on a horribly rainy day according to Trump who says his carpet was all muddy and had to be replaced. Trump says Romney would have gotten on his knees for him back then. Now, Romney returns the favor?

I like how Trump says today that he promised his wife he would be more Presidential and then he says, but I have Incoming everywhere. If they give it to me, I'm attacking right back. Rubio the little wheelsucker will be gone with one little push. Cruz is a bit more of a Clinger.

First off I am as guilty as others but let's get Mr. Beanz thread back on track and avoid the politics.
