Did You Ride Today?

The interval sessions during the week has helped a great deal for increasing my pace, but I may have overdone it. I started doing my usual 18 mile session and my legs were screaming from the first mile! Once I get dressed and ready to go, theirs no quitting though. I did the ride and felt drained, my legs didn't feel very strong at all. The positive aspect is, I managed a 18.2 mile/18.5mph/840 ft on a weak sore day. A few months back, i'd probably only manage 15/16 mph the way I felt today. I know I'm no fan of boring soft pedal recovery days, so i'll just take a few days off the bike instead.

Now that's what I'm talking about ! The weather is starting to climb higher and the legs are very happy playing in the heat. Off on Monday and didn't ride Tue. because of rain. Today the temp. was 84 degrees and had a 10-12mph wind. The plan was after work to pull out the mountain bike and hit the trails. That changed on the drive home because with the first hot day of the year I had to pull out the TT bike for some extra suffering. Decided to do the 15 mile TT route, the wind wasn't going to be a big factor because it was a side wide the whole out a back route. Being that I roll out at 195 lbs. using a tri spoke and disc in windy conditions has never been much of an issue. Finished off the ride at 24.6 mph and can't wait for the temp to climb higher.

84 degrees and sunny here, also. The heat makes old bones and muscles feel younger!

42 miles with 1550' of climbing with a 16 MPH average. The wind was a little weird at 12-14 MPH.

The smell of drying down hay was everywhere! First cutting for most guys this week!

Just to be in the game I ride 4 routes a week but nothing that is noteworthy so I generally do not post the event. Last checked I am a 240 watt guy over 30 mins. I feel pretty dang good....... waking up in the morning. BTW : My damn shoulder is still hurting for no apparent reason. I blame it on Obama.
This weekend I will ride Sat and Sun. on the bike and on my boat. I love holiday weekends. Come on down guys and I will show you how we party Flat Creek style.

What happens in Flat Creek...stays in Flat Creek!

There's a lot 'it might rain' in the weekend forecast. We'll see. If the roads are dry, I'll be out...plus the usual time on various decks, docks, patios and canopies.

You have been listening in on some of my conversations since that is far from the first time I have heard that quote. BTW: I finally caved and took some muscle relaxers. Not much chance of rain here, at least so far but the SC beach is another matter.

Loose lips...cause divorces! Expensive ones!

So...an oxy and a couple rum & cokes should make for a mellow afternoon. Your back giving you grief? That sucks. I hope it stops spas'ing out.

Head for the beach? God help you! The traffic...the crowds...the touristas...

Why don't we just anchor your boat out in the middle and see what we can fish out of the cooler?

I finally got caught up on repairing equipment (just for the weekend, mind you!), knocking down all the stupid green stuff that consumes way too much of my life and kept the plant going through this morning's power outage. The wife is on a garden tractor somewhere on the farm property right now and I'm hoping the clouds stay away so I can get an afternoon ride in with The Boy Wonder.

He blew off yesterday...probably recovering from some 140-mile epic ride with 11K' worth of climbing.

Just a light 27-mile workout in 80 degree sunshine and wind running 8 to 13 MPH. The terrain was easy with only 1100' of climbing and I kept the tempo down and still rolled in at a 16.9 MPH average. Like I said...an easy bit of ground. The Boy Wonder and I texted back and forth, but he was running late and I wanted to get done early.

Marked a grave in the old cemetery in one of our pastures when I got home and BS'd with a local farmer after he made 58 round bales across the road from our farmhouse.

Note to self: An 18,000 pound John Deere 4-wheel drive tractor with a 5x5 round baler on the back will mess up a limestone driveway. Big time.

85 Degrees with almost no wind. Paid for my hard TT effort yesterday, with a pair of legs with no jump in them. So I go out for 2 hours in the woods, and ventured toward the crazy single track trails I wandered across my last ride. Some very steep climbs that I just couldn't keep traction and had to dismount and run up them. I've never found a climb on my road bike that could break me and make me get off and walk. So having to dismount on a climb is something that I wasn't happy with. I guess that's a part of riding in the woods that I'll run across once and a while. Will leave a tad early from work Friday to start the long holiday weekend with a ride on the Kestrel.

Yesterday was the first HOT tar melting kind of day. My Garmin consistently registered 93-98F and the home thermometer read 93F in the shade. I only had one bottle (heat acclimation) and had to stop twice over 4 hours. A RAM goat came chasing at me on a country road. I slowed down and stood up on the pedals. Not sure if my 6'4'' frame or he just thought better but he stopped and turned and ran. I rode slowly. He stopped and turned and there I was 100 yards back. We played this game for about a mile until we hit a side road. Last week was a black bear. What's next for wild life.

My gear and "touring" bike are on the way to Astora Oregon. I'm going to ride kinda fast across 'Merica starting june 4 on the old Bike Centential transamerica route. 34 pounds total. Hardest decisions were tires and whether to carry but decided my little 9mm won't matter against a grizzly. This is the 40th anniversary of that route. 4300 miles and 200,000 feet of climbing supposedly. I'm not in great shape but I will be after finishing. If my torn up shoulder gives up, I might take a break in the middle to rest it up. In any case I won't have a computer to post my rides in June but wish you all tailwinds and sunny skies.

A barely ride ride.....9.1 miles w/500 ft/17.5 mph....Yes, hardly a ride. Didn't wake up early enough for even an hour ride. I do not get to work late, have to stay responsible. Speaking of work, I got a bonus today for being a good worker. The question is should I get a mountain bike or a power meter;) lol..

Weatherby, we have something in common, I'm 6'4" as well. I can totally relate on the wildlife thing, morning rides are filled with run ins with deer, wood chucks, squirrels, turkeys,....I'm going to hit something one of these days and it better not mess up my bike... I've seen a bear only once on a ride, I waited for it to go in the woods and proceeded to interval. I will ride the hilly route from last weekend again, it goes through a town called Forestburg with a population of less than 1000 and a 55 sq mile area. Tall trees, lots of wildlife.

I've spent over an hour cycling in the evening. I actually planned to keep moving for two hours, but the weather mysteriously improved after 5.00 P.M. and I suddenly I found myself sweating under my jacket as the sun shone in my eyes - I expected moderate temperature and possibly rain from the big, grey clouds that were hanging above iuntil afternoon. Guess it's a good idea to check the weather forecast sometimes!

Wishing you the best on your cycling journey, and hope your shoulder plays nice.

Today was a leave work early kind of day with the temp. coming in at 83 with an 8-10 wind. Decided to ride the bike leg of the Massachusetts State Triathlon Championships ( Olympic Distance) which runs out of Lake Dennison. I added 3 miles to make it an even 25 miles, and rolled out at 18.7 mph. Hope everyone has a Great Holiday weekend, and your able to get out and ride.

27 miles in 85 degree sunshine! Barely 1400' of vertical with a couple three decent little climbs, but mostly just flattish roads. I met The Boy Wonder and he literally kicked my ass from start to finish. I kept pissing him off by working my way back onto his wheel and pulling in front of him just to show him I still could. Heheh! And he would turn the screws again and work me over. We averaged about 18.4 and there was a 44 MPH downhill before I picked The Boy up at his house in a neighboring little town.

Nice ride! A great workout and totally enjoyable. We did shoot the breeze about today's wild Giro stage. Man did Dutch Dude, SK, blast into that snow wall hard and fast. He cartwheeled once and the bike a few more times! Zakarin got demolished in his crash a little farther down the mountain. Now threes guys are within a minute on the podium, but I think SK is going to be one beat to **** puppy when he tries to get out of bed tomorrow. If he manages to stay on the podium it will impress the Hell out of me!

Rode with the group I started with in the bike club, it was a relaxed, fun ride. A little catching up to do, haven't seen some of the members since a year ago. I want to enjoy all 3 days of this weekend and a slow moving day was on the menu. My data was messed up on strava, maybe it went off in the car? 30+ miles/1200 ft/13-14 mph? It was enjoyable to catch in the scenery, but tomorrow, I tackle the hills hard!

Got out earlier than normal for a Saturday. I tend to ride when the heat is at it's peak during the day, because that's when I feel my strongest. I got out at 11 am and the good thing is the temp was already at 82 degrees, by rides end it was at 89 degrees. Picked a nice rolling route which that's what I tend to go for anyways, and busted out 29.87 miles. Seeing I hadn't done a couple of these roads in a while I had 3 section where the top layer of pavement was removed for repaving. This makes for a nice bumpy ride and you really can't fly over it because of loose gravel and it's very uneven. That killed my average speed down to 17.2 mph for the ride. I know I was working hard because my average heart rate for the ride was 146bpm, with my normal heart rate at 52 bpm. I did max my hart rate out at 198 bpm, so I was happy with the effort.

Have fun tackling the hills tomorrow Uawadall !

Thanks Zipp, we are in the high 80's-90's here as well. Hope you're enjoying this memorial day weekend!

90 degrees and sunshine here in Ohio. I had a little time so rolled out for a longish L-S-D ride. With a tailwind at my back I rolled off through the hills of the first 15 miles at an easy climbing tempo and keeping my heart rate no where near the red zone. I stayed well hydrated...I think it was 7 bottles of H2O, 1 diet Coke and 1 sport drink. Did the entire ride on one of those ShotBloks...didn't have to dip into the stash of gels. I felt all YuroPro riding with 2 bottles on the bike and 2 more stashed in the jersey pockets. With the sun beating down and the clouds pretty much not blocking the rays it was a good day to keep drinking.

I kept the average just under 16 MPH and enjoyed the views...and what spectacular views they were! I hit the first resort beach and it was Breasts On Display! Woohoo! Rolled off to the second lake and the breasts were all up in my face as I ordered some waters and that diet Coke! Yeah, I'm a ****ing pig. Meh.

Note to self: JH's idea of getting a beach house and a boat may postpone the need for Viagra.

Turned into a nice headwind breeze of 9 to 14 MPH for the trip back home. For some reason I felt good and just worked the wind without too much effort. It wasn't really gusting, so an easy headwind if there is such a thing. Only 4000' of climbing as it is a flat route. I finished the 102 miles off in good fashion and came home to a killer salad!
