Did You Ride Today?

That frozen fog ****? It hung around all day.

It was 35° and I got 35 miles in. The sun finally broke through a little bit around 4 PM. Sunset was 4:56 PM.

Nice EZ tempo and only 980' of climbing...fairly flat. There was lots of hunters out at sunset and just as I was getting back to the truck I heard shots fired. Hopefully, three deer dropped.

Deal alert!

Check out your local WalMart for Russell brand 'Training Fit' crew neck long sleeve Dri-Power "Performance Long Sleeve Top" for $11.88 and "Cold Compression Mock Neck Top" at $15.97.

These tops make great base layers and are light weight enough to use as a single base layer under a jersey in warmer weather or use in multiple layers under a jersey and/or jacket when the temperature drops.

If your local WalMart has the heavier weight Starter brand compression tops with the mock turtleneck...snag one or two. The make great cold weather base layers.

44 with Gina on the tandem along with some buddies 17.9 average. Later at the coast we ran into a few other guys. We headed back and things got hot. At the end of the 44 miles only 3 bikes remain out of 8. At one point I felt my legs ready to give. About 1 mile from the end of the ride. I was about to say uncle when I felt Gina kick in the turbo booster! Just about gave me whiplash ha ha! Yeah Gina!

And I was worried cause she's been of the bike for a couple of weeks! :p

Oh the things we have to deal with in this cold Southern California weather! ;)

Mr. Beanz, those are great pictures. You and Gina make a great team. My best sustained speed must be in the 15 mph range, and that is for a darn short "sustained" time period. I was pretty tired after my 26 miles. I was ready to say uncle too.

I spend most of my time now thinking how to dress. Fortunately, CampyBob alerts us to good base layer deals -- see his post above -- I'm going to see what my local Walmart has.

Mr. Beanz -- do you and Gina use the seats that came with your tandem, or did you swap them for seats that work better for you? What about the people you ride with, do your friends stay with the seats that came with their bikes? I don't like my "Aliente S" seat and I'm planning to replace it with something better. But first, I want to invest in better clothing.

Enjoy the weekend!

I immediately swap seats now. After a few new bikes I realized the stock saddles are not for me. Just about everybody I know uses their own saddle and trashes the stock saddle.

I've been using Walmart under layers for years. I bought a few Under Armor couple months back . I don't see a difference other than the 30 extra bucks out of my wallet. I did get a couple new Russel at WM about a month ago, Wow super soft, my favorites so far!

I was using Terry Fly saddles for men. Back in 2005 I really liked them. Lat one I bought about a year ago sucked. The price has gone up to about $120 from my first at $60. I did try this saddle from Performance since I had one years ago and it worked for me. I actually bought 2 more about 3 months ago and use it on my tandem and my single bike. About $50 and much better than the modern Terry Fly saddle I've been using. It is actually a mountain bike seat but my comfort comes before fitting into a roadie cyclist mold. :p

Last night the wind was howling. Really howling.

This morning however, all was deathly quiet. I took the oppertunity to take a little ride up the receration ground to see the effects the wind had. Suprisingly Storm Desmond did not cause that much destruction around these parts. Just a few bins blown over, couple of branches detached and that's about it.

The deadly silence was a little creepy I have to admit however...

Oh...for crying out loud! Stop it! Just...stop it! I won't see anything like this in Ohio until June or when my wife drops her comb in the shower...probably June!

It got up to 51° here today with some sunshine and low winds. I got a solo 51 miles in. 2 light long sleeve crew neck base layers (1 heavy base layer would have worked) under a short sleeve jersey, tights, medium weight long finger gloves and no shoe covers. I did wear a thin balaclava pulled down under my chin and my head and face were at a perfect temperature when climbing or flying downhill at 40 MPH.

It was an easy workout. I only averaged 15.5 MPH and the climbing was somewhere between 1650' and 2023' depending on if you believed the Garmin barometer, STRAVA or STRAVA corrected elevation.

There were at least three motorcyclists out...a cruiser, a BMW tourer and an adventure bike.

Another 44 today, 16.3 average. Nice relaxed pace after yesterday's good effort. Gina and Jose did the 44. The Trek dude only did 20 with us.

Gina pulling the guys!

Chicken * Rib lunch special after the ride. Gina didn't want the coleslaw so she opted for a double scoop of rice. Something looks familiar but I just can't seem to put my finger on them, err I mean it! :D

Steady haha ;)

I was up very early this morning and seeing as I wasn't gonna get back to sleep I decided to take in a short ride around. Which was more of an admiring of the Chirstmas lights on peoples houses, which lead me to ride down some more suburban roads to see others lights.

It was a pretty fun and ride and got to see some cool decorations :)

I dont cycle that much lately... I cycle to and back from the pool. About 4km each way. I still kinda have some anxiety.

I think I swim about 1 km every time.

Fitness: Swimming helps a lot in the body. I feel really good and nothing hurts after like it does with cycling. I kinda feel my bod being "stretched" in the correct prosition which Feels great. :)

So if its fitness you are after, swimming is a good idea.

Strange thing: I started swimming in the small pool, and could do the whole 10m without a breath, which I still try to do correctly.
When I started in the 25m pool I had to take 3 breaths at least.
The instructor told me that its normal, today I managed to do the 25m with only one breath.
You might get tired for a lot of reasons except fitness.
Try being relaxed. Cold doesnt help much either.
I am doing the same segments for years now. My Summer efforts are faster.

Seats:

I just got a San Marco Era Arrowhead for 40 € instead of 100 because its old stock.
Its really comfortable for a road seat.
Im not too crazy about fit. I just got it in the right size and fitted it. I might make some adjustments at Some point before a long effort.

I wanted to get a seat without a cut-out but it wont work with my seat post.

Closed seats feel more comfortable to me, not to mention warmer - Dryer.

Whats the problem with your current seat?

In socialist Amerika that might get you $800/month! Throw in a 'bad back' and claim a few addictions and you'll soon be living large in California with Mr. B.

Actually I was thinking of it as well. Depression or something. €€€ every month. Maybe a job too. :p

Nice video Mr. B. Nothing like classic Aerosmith.

16 miles this afternoon. 50° and overcast skies. Just plowed through a flat course trying to roll the miles before dark. No warm up. Just throw a leg over, get it tached up and hold it there until the sun drops below the hills.

No. Ohio had a ballot issue last month to legalize the growing of medical and recreational pot. It failed by a 2:1 margin. One of my team mate's sons moved to Michigan to work on a medical mary jane pot farm. I doubt he ever amounts to much in life.

Riding under the high-tension wires...we have a trail that runs under them also. It's at the North end of the Summit Bike & Hike Trail.

21.13 Miles, 48°, wind 8 to 12 MPH. Just stretched the legs here and there and did a little light interval work. It sure beats sitting on the rollers or trainer in the basement!

I'm always kind of nervouse around them for fear the electricity will jump and come into contact with my phone or bike. The hum that comes from them does not help matters either.
