Difference between 7 speed and 8 speed rear wheel

freehub, or will the wheel require re-dishing. I suspect re-dishing

You're right - the 8 sp freehub is wider than the 7, so you'll need a new
freehub, redish, and change spacers on the non-drive side.

I'd put a new wheel on (or rim if that was all that was knackered).

Use the old axle & fit suitable spacers.

I don't know whether 8 speed indexing will work on 7 though.
