Disc Brakes switch from Mountain to Cross Bike

My son has a set of avid mechanical disc brakes that he want to take off his
mountain bike and use on his cross bike.

It is a redline with the mounts for the discs but I am wondering if the pull
is appropriate to use with his Ultegra 9-speed shifters.

Nope, won't work directly. You can use inline travel agents (
http://www.problemsolversbike.com/products.html ) . Only problem is it
will probably cost something like half as much as just buying 2 pairs
of avid road bb5 brakes..

MTB avid discs require longer travel than what road brifters can provide, so
Ultegra levers won't work. Avid makes road-specific discs.

The problemsolvers might look ok, but I've shredded cables using these -
there is a sharp bend that cables go through in the device. I won't
recommend these. Just sell the MTB avids on ebay and buy a set of avid road
BB5 as suggested...

Thanks, that is what I thought but couldn't find the information.
