  1. The 50 Marathons in 50 days promo...

"Karnazes, who goes through 40 to 50 pairs of running shoes per year,
will only use two pairs during the 50 days. They are prototypes made
especially for him for this feat. The shoes have no laces, but can be
adjusted by turning a small button on the back".

I was curious about this because knowing DK was a Northface sponsored
shoe trail runner(I believe), I wondered what road shoe he would wear
on the road marathons. I assume Northface was using this event to
    introduce a road running shoe. Not sure. 50 Marathons x 26.2 = 1310
miles spread across 2 pairs of shoes? 655 Mi/pair?

Of course it's do-able, but who wants to run a Marathon in a shoe with
500 miles on it? DK is 5'8" and about 155-160. He's a solidly built
guy and I gotta believe he gives shoes a decent pounding. If he's
going through as many as 50 pairs of shoes / year..I doubt he wears a
single shoe for more than a couple a hundred miles, maybe 300 on a
    high.

That's very doable, provided you use durability as your main selection
criterion. My regular trainers (Mizuno precision) are only good for about
450-600, but I can easily get more than that out of a heavier, more durable
    shoe.

I think he's doing something that's more like a long training run. Again, it's
just a matter of choosing the shoe based on durability.

300 isn't high, it's very low. Even my Nike flats get longer than that.

    Cheers,

  3. DK was demo'ing these during his book lecture tour.
He didnt say anything about a two shoe limit.

I wonder if these would be usable for trail running. The knob could
    catch on ground derbis.
