Turns out I have a knee allignment problem where my right foot is angled out slightly when knees are alligned in the forward direction. When riding however, my feet are parallel to the direction of travel and therefore my right knee is not in it's natural position which causes knee pain. I need to be able to ride with my foot pointing outwards slightly but that is causing my heel to keep catching on the crank. Do "long" pedals exist to allow me to position my foot at the slight angle it needs but as far outboard as possible to avoid the crank with my heel.
There are "wide" pedals available but better solutions may be: a spacer for or an extention of the pedal axle is/are available a friend of mine has extentions, (that screw into his crank that the pedalls screw into), spacing his pedals outward about 3/4 inch, getting a pedal system that allows your foot to "float", and getting your bike "re-fit" by an experienced pro, using a system such as 'fit kit" may help as well as your feet can be aligned in a more natural position and can advise better what solution is best for you. Steve Loveland set my friend up, 509 747 5220, he may be able to help or recommend someone in your area
