Doped Bike ! Some evidence?

Those were some amazing rides.
I guess Cancellara can take it as a nice complement, when people say he must have a motor in the bike, because he pulls away so easily. :)

+1, AND, once you get in a competitors head like that... OH MAN, what a great situation to be in. That kind of thing can break a fella's spirit. and THAT is really what you want. get them thinking they just can't do it, so why bother.

I Cancellara, so I say good on him for this stroke of great press and luck. :)

Well I watched those races and didn't think it looked unnatural. Cancellara is a TT specialist so to accelerate while seated is not alien (sic) to him.

The UCI need to set out a clear message on mechanical cheating as it would involve both team mechanics and the riders knowledge. Nothing less than life time bans for riders & mechanics and whole team removed or disqualified from the race with repayment of seasons winnings. There is no point in reacting after the event. Any form of mechanical cheating should be nipped in the bud before it becomes a bike culture as doping was allowed to from the 1960s (or earlier even?) onwards. If the UCI don't make a stand now they will forever be playing catch up and teams will complain that they are changing rules retrospectively as they did with the 3:1 aero rulel ast year. With the advent of Shimano's Di2 electronic shifting we now see bikes with wires and batteries - how far should this be allowed to go when what is great about cycling is the sheer man against nature spectacle of a race or grand tour?

What are we going to end up with? Teams with identicle bikes supplied by UCI? Sponsors would leave the sport in droves. Maybe they will have to wiegh and xray each bike before every stage. Is that possible now with carbon frames?

Do you think this is worse than traditional doping?

Obviously if a rider can gain an extra 100 watts for ~30 minutes its much more effective than EPO or whatever.

No, both are deliberate cheating in my book. The difference is that the UCI have an opportunity to come down very hard at the outset and no one would blame them. They have struggled to come to terms with doping and its culture within the sport adn been too slow to react. In my opinion life time bans should be announced for doping as well. Give one season warning. The litigation could go on for years in that case though as it can be so hard to prove.

Stormer/Bastiani : the years have taken their toll on my climbing ability.

I was just wondering if either of you guys could help me, to get over the hills like, internal motor, cough.......brown paper bag with cash..........this conversation never happened:D:D:D

Seriously though, mechanical doping is as bad as pharmaceutical cheating in my book.

One day, someone's guaranteed to crash hard enough to wreck his bike and if he's using such equipment I'm sure all the junk will be showing...kind of like how Sammy Sosa was found to be using a cork bat after his broke.

Ummmm what's all this stuff??? No it's not mine I swear! I accidentally picked up my grandpa's bike!

I think that if you made a planetary gear CVT type transmission it would benefit more than a motor. Think about it... ONE giant continuously changing gear. Would accomodate to your fatigue with out having to shift gears and increasing cadence, etc..

Or maybe a very heavy rim... to create high momentum, so that when you do get tired, the momentum of the rim carries you through. it will be a pain to get up to speed, but that's what we have motors hidden in the downtube for.

So the 'doped bike' becomes news and Cancellara loses his first big time trial in 3 years immediately afterwards...

Coincidence?

LOL

I'd have to say that I'm impressed by the ingenuity of this little motor. It seems as if doping is moving away from biochemistry and back to the crazy antics (nails, passenger trains, body doubles) they used in the early days of the tour! Someone could write an entire book about the history of doping and cycling and it would actually be quite entertaining. To a certain extent, motorized doping isn't as dangerous as PED's since the rider isn't risking an early death.

All of this is unacceptable of course. So far, I really can't believe a guy like Fabian would ever do something like that. The cobblestones are so disruptive that it would be weird if any rider were able to keep his hands still...Fabian could have just adjusted his hand position or he may have just rubbed a finger in that particular part of the lever. The video quality is too poor to be conclusive, so this is all speculation as of now. The prospect of motorized doping does concern me though...

with an actual motor that saves the rider's bodily energy for latter on during a race or for whatever parts he wants to ride and ride with intensity for that matter instead of those times when 'cheating with a mechanical motor' as they are not using any energy then, ped's would not generally be necessary to make them stronger as they , IMO, could very well have saved enough energy on other parts of the race, let's just say in the cruising , no attacking peleton bits on some ten to twenty miles stretches of road, on and off again, than on the other bits such as the cobblestone breakaway of death by Cancellara he could easily dominate...as he did. i'm trying not to take sides but it sure LOOKS as if something is fishy with his accelerations and i hate even saying that as for who he is and he is a bad ass, no doubt.

but...
