What is his current "standing" (if any) in the traditional medical
community?
In the alternative/complimentary community?
Or has his time come & gone?
I was glancing through a holistic magazine yesterday in the supermarket,
wherein he has a Q&A column. I thought his answers rather "practical" &
not "far out" as I would have expected from hearing "about" him.
I don't regard him as hard-core alternative. For example he stated recently
in a radio interview that "placebos are the meat of medicine". This
reflects his major interest, which is "mind-body" medicine . It
positions him at the "feel-good, feel-better" end of medicine, rather than
among those pretending have the answer to difficult medical problems.
He annoys me immensely in one way, as one of the more sensible "alternative"
practitioners. He actually said in the TV debate with Dr Relman " a lot
of it (alternative medicine) is ridiculous and a lot is dangerous". He
nevertheless still panders to the alt mentality by never commiting himself
to more than a "I personally am not convinced" about even the most
ridiculous drivel, such as that of Hulda Clark, even though I am absolutely
certain he regards it as drivel. But he would perhaps see it as having
useful placebo actions for some.
