Came home from ride yesterday, and after cleaning the bike heard this hissing noise and realised all air had just gone out of the rear tyre... Had a look at it and the valve (presta) seems to have dislodged from the tube somehow. Am really not v. handy so don't really know how to sort this out. Any advice would be most helpful!

Just buy a new tube. They only cost $3-6 depending and what you need.

Not sure of the exact problem but tubes are very thin walled and if you torque the valve stem too much, and it doesn't take much, if you are cleaning or pumping up, to rip the tube open.
If that's not the problem then I apologize for the interruption, but it is still good advise to be careful when dealing with the stem.
