Dura Ace 7800 Cassette - Does not fit Mavic Ksyrium Elites

I'm having issues with an used Dura Ace 7800 Cassette I purchased. When I put all the pieces of the cassette on the hub of an older Mavic Ksyrium Elites, there is significant play and the threaded end cap does not actually screw tight against the cassette. I have tried an 105 10 speed cassette and it's fine. Even tried the Dura Ace end cap and it holds the 105 cassette tightly. Anyone know what could be going on here?

Sounds like you're missing the spacer that slides onto the cassette body before you put the sprockets on.

If you've used the 105 cassette for a while, you may have a spacer that may be 'stuck' on the inside of the big sprocket.

Some older Mavic wheels also had their own oddball spacer too that you may have to take into account...

I have two sets of Mavic Aksiums and I had the same issue. The first time I filed the end of the body down without abandon - it worked but there are better solutions.

The spacer thickness is 1.75 mm. If you have a retired shimano/sram 8 speed cassette or shimano/sram/campy 9 speed, you can use one of the old small sprockets (1.8mm) as a spacer - this works for me.

I'm going to 2nd this - my experience was with the Elites that featured the milling between the spokes (I think starting 2009/2010?) so not sure how old your wheels are. I ran both 7800 and 6600 cassettes fine.

Although it is advertised as an 11spd conversion, it looks like the same thing to me and the closing paragraph in the description reads:
Good news, if you purchased a Mavic Shimano road freehub and find that it is too long for the cassette this spacers can also be used to adjust the end play to obtain a tight assembly. The spacer measure .070" inches thick and weight 2 gram each.

At least for the last eight or so years, Mavic has used just two cassette bodies for both mountain and road, one for Campagnolo and one for Shimano/SRAM. The Shimano version works for 10-speed Shimano with the Mavic 1.75 mm spacer plus the 1.0 mm Shimano spacer. It also works for SRAM 10-speed, Shimano 9-speed, and Shimano 8-speed with just the Mavic mm spacer.

If yours got lost somewhere along the way, your local shop can order the spacer, as well as other Mavic hub parts, from QBP or Mavic.
