I have a set of dura-ace 8spd shifters. Can I use them to shift 8 cogs of a 9spd cassette?

Yes, but not with an older Dura-Ace rear derailer. Dura-Ace 8 shifters pull about the same amount of
cable per shift as other Shimano 9-speed units.

If you change the rear derailleur to any Shimano rear derailleur except 7/8 speed DuraAce.
