This concerns all components, frames, wheels, forks etc. How much weight are you willing to sacrifice for durability?

Do you buy the Team issue frame to shave that last ounce of weight or do you go for frame durability and stay away from the light stuff?

I like a light bike but at nearly 200 lbs I have top consider strength. I tend to buy one level down in weight from the top of the line so as to get more strength. Compnent wise, I think the top end components do not sacrifice strength but wheels do. I have heard that most carbon rims have a limited lifespan rating, not sure if that is true

Yes you are correct. If a rider goes above 160 the current lightweight goodies is not a good choice for strength and durability. Carbon rims are great if you race but if not then why bother.
