Easy Shifting Question

I just got a new Cannondale Ironman 600 with the brake/shifting combination up front. My old bike had had the shifting on the down tube. I took it for granted that I would know how to shift this new one. BUT, for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

I can only get it to shift in one direction and now I can't get out of the small ring on the front and the back. So, how do I shift it back in the other direction? I have narrowed the options down to two:

1. I am missing something (this is my strong first choice).
2. The shifters on this new bike are broken (I doubt it).

***Ha! I figured it out. You push BOTH the brake and the shifter to go back up and just the shifter piece to go down***

LOL man................. you don't even know how to use STI hahahahahahahahahahahahaha............... at least you didn't take the bike back to the shop and say the lever was broken like me!

my bike had sachs shifters on it I was trying my friends sti shifters and it took awhile to figure out how to shift them the other way.
