Prologue: Schumacher (Gerolsteiner), 7:00
Hincapie (Discovery), 7:01
Posthuma (Rabobank), 7:01
Defending champ Bobby Julich not in the top 10; Boonen, T Dekker, Nuyens, Gutierrez were in. Not sure who to consider as the likely competitors for the overall, don't know enough about the race. Philippe Gilbert?

Big George made it second on a Prologue AGAIN?

He lost by less than half a second.

It looked like Bobby J had a cold and wasn't giving it his all.

Boonen wins stage 1. Some relatively minor splits in the field, so 21 riders finish in the front group, 9 finish 4 seconds back, the peloton at 9 seconds. Boonen takes the race lead thanks to the bonus seconds and a strong prologue performance. Posthuma is amongst the many that loses 9 seconds and so loses a few placings.

Yea your right but he is the leader of the pack. I think he actually works for the British Tabloids.

Landis & lawyer blame dehydration on positive test... what a crock !

UCI to take legal action against Landis ? Patrick Lefevere to vomit ?

Zabriskie slums it with drug felon Landis in Chicago.

Landis puts young riders out of a job....

Rihs blames Landis for breakup of team and that he is a "bad person" for using drugs.

Phonak disbanded due to drug cheating Landis

Quinziato (Liquigas) fooled the sprinters... He attacked 2 kilometers before the finish and won the second stage today. Second was Cadamuro (Milram), third was Weylandt (Quickstep)

What happened with the railroad crossing? It seems like a train may have shut down an early solo break.

Yes Luis Pasamontes was disqualified during a solo because he passed a red sign at a railway crossing (like Hoste & co during PR)

Can admin please post this thread where it belongs.

They managed to split the field today, a lead group of 42 and 120 riders back by 53 seconds, but I can't tell if anyone important got stuck behind, except for Bobby Julich. I'm just not sure who the favorites are here.

Edit: I see from his time that Bobby J was well back even before today's stage.

Bobby Julich lost a lot of time in the prologue. All favourites were in the first group (Boonen, T. Dekker, Schumacher, Hincapie, Gilbert, Posthuma, Kroon, Tjallingi). The Dutch, the Belgians and... Hincapie made the race very fast when the sidewind came up and the bunch splitted.

Hincapie's going well, i think.

Hard to see past Tommy Boonen though at the moment.

What a season he's having.

The question is how Boonen will do at the last stage (Ans-Ans). I think that could be stage for Schumacher, maybe T. Dekker? Somehow i have a feeling that Boonen will loose the GC at that stage, but yes he is having a great season.

You don't think anyone will surpass him after Sunday's TT? Posthuma was 10th in the first TT of the TdF, Hincapie is strong also and only 7 seconds back.
