I'm just getting into training and competing on the road in a very serious matter, money is still sort of a limiting factor still but I can spend up to about $2.5k on a bike. I've got mixed advice from several different people. One said to go with a entry level carbon fiber, i.e. 2010 Felt F5 (which I've tested and loved and comes with a 2k price tag with no additions) but would like a little better components on it. Another person told me to go aluminum and focus on investing most of my money upgrading the components, citing that almost all entry level carbons are of poor quality (carbon and component wise) and often aluminums with better components seem to outperform them. I believe the 2010 Felt offers a pretty good deal, in terms of quality. Please give me your opinion on my situation.
