Hi everyone,
The fourth Rydges Capricorn Half Ironman Triathlon at Yeppoon in Central Queensland opens entries to
coincide with the 2003 Snap Printing Ironman Australian Triathlon on April 6th.
The early bird deadline for the race that allows southern based Australian athletes to "Escape
Winter!" is late July and the race, on a flat and fast course is on August 17th over the traditional
1.9km sheltered ocean swim, 90kms of ABSOLUTELY flat roads and a 21km run that is constantly voted
the best in Australia.
The event is open to individuals, national or international, and teams of two and three persons are
also welcome.
Entry includes a 'Welcome Dinner" of the Friday night, that's simply not to be missed and a two day
sport and training seminar with two top ranked Australian Level Two coaches runs Thursday and Friday
before the race.
Race information from the 2002 race is at http://www.capricornhalf.com and will be updated in coming
days for the 2003 race...much of the current information however is pertinent.
There is an option of secure encrypted online registration or you will be able to download the 2003
entry form as a PDF file shortly.
The Ironman Wetsuits swim (suits optional depending on water temperature) is a straight line,
current assisted 1.9km leg, across the front of the Rydges Capricorn Resort and the Rydges Ride bike
course this year will be four laps in and back from Yeppoon to the Resort on semi-closed roads. The
21 km Asics run course is entirely within Resort grounds and local coastal forest. Hydration for the
2003 race is by Enervit.
The event has 55 slots for Australians looking to qualify for the 2004 Ironman Australia Triathlon
but allows a great warm up for Hawaii for everyone from anywhere.
So,.' Escape Winter!' or Summer too and head 'down-under' to the best darn and friendliest race you
can fit into this season...
