Thanks for the thoughts Dave. Sorry to revive a dead thread but I just read something recently in "The Lore of Running" that might help close the door on this thread.

My original premise was that, IF there were some way to estimate substrate utilization from power meter data, it might help inform dietary needs for recovery. I still believe this is true. But it appears that substrate utilization at any given level of effort is extremely variable, between and within individuals. So knowing your power output likely can't give you a reasonable estimate of carb vs fat utilization on an individual level.

I still maintain that it would be useful to know such information, but I just don't see any reasonable way to estimate it based solely on power meter data.
