Even the Canadians hate us!

Final score Australia 36 - USA 24, after USA led 18-0 early in the game. Not a very convincing performance from the Australians when they're meant to be the best team in the world. Maybe they were jet-lagged, hung over, not interested or whatever, but they should be ashamed of that performance. The US team can hold their heads up.

That is only because Brett Favre is currently the QB for the Packers (and resting after a great win over the Rams ) and isn't on the rugby team. And there is another reason the USA lost. Mike Ditka isn't coaching it!

No, Sherlock. I am refering to your partisan printed media that obtained voter registration information of Ohio citizens and directly contacted said citizens.

So you're not even talking about the UK government interfering with another country, you're talking about a handful of journalists? Hmm...journalists contacting voters in Ohio...invading another country for no reason...yeah, that's the same thing.

And on the Patriot Act, I'm sure you are basing your position on Sherman Austin, that dope-smoking subversive who is whining about his stay in club fed for hosting information on how to build a bomb on his website where he also advocated overthrowing the government. It wasn't the Patriot Act that earned him the year in federal lock-up, it was the judge. When in court, don't pis off the judge. Some people know just enough to get their butts in hot water.

Nope, I've never heard of the guy. I'm basing my position on stuff like people having the feds called on them when they try to buy MS Flight Sim, people being imprisoned indefinitely without being tried or charged, White House spokesmen telling opponents of the administration to "watch what they do, watch what they say", library users being handed over to police for reading non-English web pages and so on. This 1984-style culture is how Nazi Germany kicked off, and before you think I'm slamming your country, I'm not - the USA has (well, had) a good system on the whole, and I hate to see morons like Bush tearing it to pieces for his own dirty little motives.

Very well put.

I was recently in canada and after a few conversations it became apparent that Canadians really really hate Americans! I always knew they hated the Shrub but it goes further than that. They think Americans are fat, greedy, arrogant, loud, rude, stupid…the list goes on and on. And these are supposed to be our friendly neighbors? Why do we direct all our anger against France when our worst enemy is right next door?
These freaks have health care for everyone, take care of their less fortunate, and they allow gays to marry. They have strict gun control laws. They have less violent crime per capita. They are de-criminalizing marijuana. They seem to care about this thing called “the environment”, whatever that is. They refused to join us in Iraq. Their strange people are polite and unassuming. They think George Bush is a moron.
How dare they have a socialist, peaceful, liberal, intelligent, sophisticated society right across the border from us! How dare they!!!
I think we should re-name Canadian Bacon to Freedom Bacon. That’ll show em, right?
Or better yet, lets invade Canada.
Oh, my dearest darling Saucy, it must be quite awful to have people next door to you who don't want to join the hooligan society in which you live. Just think of it in simple terms. The British colonials of heritance and the French heritance. They seem to have accord of civilised construction. If you would like to consider thing in reverse, the French and Brits got out of Murkia. The only problem is the Industrial **** pumped in the air from Murkia pollutes. Canada has a resource second to none, it's called pure water.
As for invading Canada with USA bull, it never worked, and never will. We're all decent people here in the UK. Just look at our posters, all from the British Empire and the colonies of the Commonwealth. Gaaawd bless 'em. Pioneers, every one of them.

DT,

I'm not quite sure what happened, but we came close to biting the pillow.

I haven't seen the game yet. I am looking forward to it.

Apparently the United Nations annually publishes a Human Development Index, a list of the "most liveable countries". The list is based on "quality of life", the criteria including life expectancy, educational attainment, and adjusted real income, among other things. Here is their rankings:

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Australia
4. Canada
5. Netherlands
6. Belgium
7. Iceland
8. United States

How is it that a country that is almost entirely economically dependent on us, is 1/10 the size of the US, has a nominal military force, outranks us as being more liveable!?! I think we've established that the weather was probably not one of the criteria.

The United States is the richest, most powerful nation on earth and we only place #8?!? Yes, I know that this list is probably biased. The UN are clearly part of the Axis of Evil (by refusing to bend to Shrub's whims and do our bidding), but still, shouldn't we be in the Top 5 at least?

Even Australia beats us! A country founded by criminals is now more liveable than the United States!!!

If we invade Canada, destroy their infrastructure, and start running their country like our own, then this will knock them off the list and we will move into 7th place.

I plan on taking Rummy aside at the next cabinet meeting and will ask him to draft up a war plan on Canada (I'm sure its outdated). I think a land assault on the prairie provinces and aerial bombardments of Toronto and Vancouver is the way to go.

First Canada, then Australia...

Cost of living, food, and education probably was figured into the equation. If you like where you live and have a good life, then who cares what anyone else thinks?

Interesting quote this one:

Even Australia beats us! A country founded by criminals is now more liveable than the United States!!!

The country wasn't founded by criminals. Unless you are referring to the British Government of 1788. If you are proposing that some how as a people we are inferior because of it then I think your wrong.

Your visiting the sins of the father on the sons. :D Reputations don't carry on over the centuries.

Settled by the rejected working classes and petty villains of London & environs under the control of the British Navy perhaps. The serious criminals got hung in those days.

Kind regards,

JBG,

Don't tell everyone how good life is in Australia. They'll all want to move in!;)

Sorry folks I'm not even a cyclist but there is so much **** in the thread that I just had to say something. I am Canadian and have been to many states in the US and I do not hate America. However, I do hate how many Americans label/generalize people from foreign countries based on limited knowledge and personal experience. We(Canadians) do not all own dogsleds, say eh?, only eat "Canadian bacon". Why is there so much hate?? Even within your own country, white on black, white on white, black on black etc the violence is horiffic. If you actual spend time in our major cities like Toronto or Vancouver you would find it quite similar to major cities in the US. As for the rest of the boring parts of Canada, its just like the rest of America, boring. There is SOOO much media/information control in the US that many Americans don't really know what is going on outside of their our towns and cities. If you wouldn't mind I would like to see some American response to this.

http://beyondtreason.com/ and there is link to http://www.gulfwarvets.com/

This site is created by an Americans trying to reach out other Americans. But how many Americans actually know about this, GULF WAR DISEASE!! Here is a taste ...."The American Gulf War Veterans Association (AGWVA), an independent Gulf War Veterans’ support organization, has long searched for answers to explain why nearly half of the 697,000 Gulf War I Veterans are now ill and why over 200,000 of those servicemen/women have requested disability, but have received no adequate diagnosis or treatment.."

Sorry to take up so much space but really need to get that off my chest. Thank you very much for your time.

its a bit puzzling why the author of this post said that Even the Canadians...

history has shown us that countries who share a border are historical and political enemies or at the very least harbour resentment and are bitter rivals. Scotland and England, Spain and Portugal, Brazil and Argentina, Sweden and Norway etc.

America is openly beligerant to most nations so the poor Canadians who have to share a border have got a bigger gripe that most of us.

we could put it to a vote, would you like your country to be attached to the US? ...no, i didnt think so.

and the moral? if i were Canada, i would pack up my cities, forest and mountains and move to Europe. (leave the mounties behind) There is a big bit of water just to the north of Scotland that no one is using, you could go there. Lets see if the big jessies can live without Canada. :D

Stereotypes and generalizations are universal and will continue to be. These comments grow out of ignorance and mistrust.
It is human nature to ridicule what you do not understand or fully understand It starts as bullying in grade school and carries through life for some.
If one can make light of someone elses presumed shortfalls ,it makes you feel temporarily better about your own.
I am as American as you can be, I guess Scot/Irish and Native American (Cherokee) so I guess I qualify to respond.
I agree about the media. They have their own agenda and perspective.

I am a child of the 60's, Cuban Missle Crisis,Cold War and Vietnam.
I am amazed we haven't blown ourselves to hell already but it's still early in the nuclear age. We still have time !

Well said thanks for providing me with some insight. I'm sure you will agree that we are different in our own ways but also in many ways we are quite similar. The American people in general are kind and accepting, but I just find there are too many organizations(government and private) that use and misguide the public for their own benefit. This war in Iraq is a good example of that!

Zap, I don't really mind it, it is just that my ex-wife has the exclusive contract for trashing me and I would not want her to file a union grievance with the IUPB (International Union of Professional *****es).
She gets un-ruly when someone tries to take her job.
She has been in a bad mood ever since that house fell on her sister and that little girl stole her "ruby slippers".

My present wife is pretty good ,likes football and rides a Cannondale r 900.
A tolerable woman all in all.

Speaking of football I can't remember who VT is playing in what bowl. UT is at Cotton and Texas Tech.

My wife when she is not experiencing "the pause" freakin symptoms is the perfect wife. BUT...she rides a tandom with my kid, can't get her on a real bike. But, in her defense, she has a bad back.

VT is playing Auburn in the Surgar Bowl...I can only hope the force is with us. We choked when we played the Noles there, can't do it this time!

UT was devastated by the Tigers in regular season but gave a good showing in the SEC Chamionship considering they have their 3rd string QB and a lot of injuries.
Auburn has a lot of weapons but it should be a good game. I think Auburn got the shaft in the rankings.
