The Roanoke Times put together a great section on road and mountain biking in and around Roanoke, which is in southwest Virginia in the U.S.:

FYI, the Tour DuPont came through Roanoke several times, using one of the mountains there (Twelve O'Clock Knob) for a killer time trial.
