  1. This week I purchased a can of Quaker Oats (1 Minute type). When eating
it, I noticed that it had a slightly bitter taste. The next morning I
saw a few small pimples on my face. Also noticed a skin condition which
indicates the oats have a fungus mycotoxins. This prompted to check the
expiration code. It is May 04 07L210. Did it expire nearly 2 years ago?

I just checked my container of Quaker Oats. The expiration date is July 12 06.
    To me that means 2006.

I suppose yours will expire on May 4, 2007. But mine is not the 1 minute kind,
it is the old fashioned oats.

If it tasted bitter I would suspect that it was not in the best of condition.
It could be contaminated with something.

In the past I have purchased oat bran but it had a bitter taste and I did not
finish the box because I didn't like it.

Incidentally, you should check the dates on bread that you buy because sometimes
it sits on the shelf in the store for a week or more and when opened it smells
moldy even though the preservatives they put in it prevent it from developing
    visible mold.

  3. Yes, the oils can be dangerous, especially when the antioxidant cover
is almost all gone and there is rapid peroxidation. The "health
benefits" are illusory, that is, if you don't allow cholesterol to get
oxidized it is only "good," not "bad." Even AHA spokesmen are saying
that these days. The "fiber" is also not necessary if you don't allow
free radical damage to be done (with rancid fat), and the other
"benefits" you often hear are just anti-nutritive elements that appear
"beneficial" to those whose diets are contain too much iron, for
    example.

  4. This started out as a good question, but turned in something totally
silly as usual. So, I will comment on what I am interested in.

Oats are a grain. One of the biggest developments in agriculture was
growing grains. Grains solved ancient mans biggest survival problem:
the preservation of food. The Egyptian pyramids have proven that
grains can be successfully preserved for thousands of years.

The main danger to grain storage is water and the threat of fungal
contamination, as well as rodent and insect infestations.
