Hi,

I ran a local New Year's Day 5K - sponsored by Michelob Ultra. You've gotta love a run that is
followed by free beer on New Year's Day!
I was slow - 26:48 official time, minus 1 minute in the bathroom 🙁, but I came directly to the run
after finishing a 12-hour shift in the hospital where two patients coded, so I was pretty wiped out
at the starting line. I knew I wouldn't be setting any time records.
Anyway, it was a good way to start the year - we (temporarily) saved both of the patients and I
finished my run. 🙂
Hope everyone else had a similarly good start to 2004!
Terri

I didn't run the New Year's race. I didn't feel ready. I'm still a
bit discouraged with my training. Don't know if I'm overtraining or
undertraining, but I'm not making much progress. It's been so cold
here in NJ that I've been running on the treadmill. This is my usual
workout:
walking warm-up for a few minutes 1 mile at 12 min pace walk for a minute or two 1 mile at 11.5
min pace walk for a minute or two 1 more mile varying speed depending on how I feel. 5 - 10
minute cool down
I have a fairly high resting pulse. During the run on the treadmill it jumps to about 153 bpm. (I am
56 years old) During the first two minutes of cool-down it gets down to about 130 bpm, but then it
takes me a LONG time to completely recover. I guess I'm really out of shape, but I'm trying not to
worry about my heart rate. I just want to feel comfortable running 3 miles. Hasn't happened yet. Nia
