  1. I did some barbell side presses yesterday for the first time in a few
months, and now there's not much in the way of muscular soreness, but my
arms feel as though they've been sunburnt. There's no redness; just a
sensitive area centered around my elbows and extending most of the way up
and down my arms. It doesn't bother me much, but I am a bit curious as to
what's going on. Did I stretch my skin somehow, or is this just what DOMS
    feels like in this area?

No responses so I'll chime in - I get exactly this, too, and I've
figured out over the years it is indeed muscular in nature, it just
feels like it's your skin. Haven't a clue as to why (which is why I
didn't say anything before), and I manage to avoid it most of the time.
Whatever the case, it's indicative of overtraining for me so I always
take it easy for a few days afterwards, usually still lifting but lower
intensity and volume both. I don't get it from side presses but I do
get it, strangely enough, in my upper arms.

Huh. I've been slacking with squats for a couple of months, and after
picking them up again yesterday, I'm getting the same thing in my legs. This
is odd, because I've never noticed anything like this before, and also
because I took it pretty easy and didn't do anything that could reasonably
be expected to lead to overtraining. Thanks for the additional data point,
    though.

One more thing for you to think about - consider that it might be
related to your diet. I started taking supplemental potassium a while
back and haven't had this problem since then. I think there are several
minerals like potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc., for which
deficiencies can cause some weird symptoms. I experimented with all
three and found only potassium made a difference for me so I take it
every day now. It's one of the not-so-wonderful things about getting
older - I just need less food to maintain my weight than I used to, and
I know I used to eat more fruit than I do now, so it all seems to make
sense to me. (Whether or not there is actually any cause/effect
relationship here I will never know...)

As always, best to discuss these things with your doctor before doing
    anything too drastic.
