1. This is my second thread on this site. My first was about my growing interest in cycling, riding an old POS and losing 50lb, until I got a tibial plateau fracture. Well I am about to go for my final checkup and release. For the last month I have been riding a stationary recumbent for about 40 minutes at an 85-RPM cadence and my knee feels good, but my ass can’t take much more. I have traveled to almost all the bike shops in my area and have found a really good one really close. They are a serious road bike shop in a wealthy area and sell a lot of top end bikes. They also seem into proper fitting, wanting to set an appointment and setting up some bikes in my range, what you all talk about repeatedly. The only problem is I won’t get as much of a bike for the buck. I also stopped in a bike shop in a local beach town that sells mostly beach cruisers. They have a 2005 FELT F55 for sale. It is a 58 and I am 6’ with a 34 to the floor inseam. The owner, the knowledgeable one was out, so I talked to a young kid. He said they had the bike for a while. The price on the bike was $1900, but he called the owner and said he would take $1300. I feel I could do even better with cash. I took it for a ride, after quickly adjusting the seat, and it felt good in the legs, but the bars where to far out. I assume that could be all adjusted. I asked about fitting and the kid said the owner does that all. My question is whether this is a good deal? If it is should I go for it or should I get a lesser bike at the better store where I will also get future support? Ebay has good deals also, but I don’t feel I know enough yet. Any input would be appreciated.
