  1. hi everyone,

after a lot of work, i have finally convinced my parents to let me have a bike, but on a very small budget (AU$1000). i was considering buying on ebay, as i want a good running gear and frame, but can't afford to buy new (in reality). what do you think? go for something on ebay, or buy new? any ideas would be much appreciated.

    cheers,

    john

  2. After being out of cycling for nearly 20 years (kids, family, life got in the way ...), I recently purchased a Trek 1000. I love it ... very nice entry level bike. You can find them in the USA for around US$600, so it might fit your price range. You might also be able to find a LBS that has a prior-year model.

I put Speedplay X5 pedals on it, so that added about US$100, but they're great for my old-man knees ... you can either stay with the clips/platforms that come with it, or find a cheaper clipless solution ... lots of those on ebay.
