Guys,
I'm interested in starting to commute to work by biking and haven't had much experience with biking at all. I've looked at some reviews and online stores and got several entry-level road bike to choose from:

1。 Hasa R4 http://www.amazon.com/2013-HASA-Road-Shimano-Speed/dp/B00D3W8JD 2.Vilano FORZA 4.0 http://www.amazon.com/Vilano-FORZA-Aluminum-Integrated-Shifters/dp/B0053YPOB8/ref=pd_sbs_sg_cy_4 3. Vilano FORZA 3.0 http://www.amazon.com/Vilano-FORZA-Aluminum-Carbon-Shimano/dp/B 4. Diamondback Podium 1 http://www.amazon.com/Diamondback-Podium-Wheels-Silver-Medium/d

5. Hasa RX-2 flat bar
http://www.amazon.com/2012-HASA-Flat-Shimano-Speed/dp/B005NLPZ4M/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_2

I realize I'm more used to the flat bar type bikes so I'm inclined to Hasa RX-2 and I read some reviews online suggesting they are pretty good deals. But I can only find a 56cm version of the bike and I'm almost 6'2'' so not sure if 56cm will be a bit small for me.

I plan to go to local shops and try out a few bikes but it seems that all the bikes they have are over $600 so I may end up buying online and have some friends help me assemble it.

Does anyone have suggestions for or against any of the above bikes?

Thanks!

Any reason for Diamondback?
it has a very nice geometry and good aesthetics, (equipment is similar in all 5 bikes which is not a surprise since they are all in similar same price ranges) the Diamondback brand has a long history behind them, mainly as being the best BMX back in the 80's,

I'm not sure if I find the right "CCM" bikes you referred to. Didn't find much information online. Do you have a link?

I see. How do you tell which geometry is good/better? I noticed the product description says "Enhanced Performance Geometry" but other than that, which parameter do you look at?

its what they call a sloping frame, you see the top tube is not parallel to the ground, then the back wheel is quite close to the seat tube, a must really, finally the straight blade fork gives you a nice ride and race like sensations, p.s. the CCM stuff is a spam

LOL CCM = SPAM?

HArdly, they are at the national Canadian department store called Canadian Tire.

they are good used cheap bikes that last but the components need to be watched

I've worked on a couple Vilanos Forzas. This bike is utterly without redemption.

A 56 cm Hasa will be too small. Besides, the only review on Amazon says it sucks.

The Podium is an honest cheap bike. The only annoyingly cheap features are the brake pads and brake and shift cables. These are inexpensively upgraded after you've ridden the bike for a while. Everything else about the bike is pretty darned good. Look for one in 60 cm.

I see.

I visited a local bike store and the shop staff recommended a Trek FX 7.2... It looks pretty nice and the hybrid type bike does seems to be more versatile and comfortable than a road bike. So maybe i'll end up buying a hybrid..

There is strong value by buying at a LBS. Especially for your first bike. The assistance in fitting and adjusting will be worth a couple of hundred dollars to most people

ccm bikes have low quality parts on them , the store Canadian Tire that sells is also very bad for accepting returns ! 2nd worst voted customer service ! buy at your local bike shop ,not a made in china hunk of junk, i know this because i bought 1 a few months ago CCM 26'' Alpine -- saving up for a trek

You cant return a bike just because you dont like it.
ccm comonents are so cheap and plentiful you can literally just walk into the store buy the part and install it yourself in like 30 minutes or less with no experienc.

also, i advocate buying a used one for 50 dollars. they are cheap good and used what more can one ask for?

Funny, that's exactly why you should never buy a bike from a place like CCM. A good bike shop will let you try out several bikes until they come up with one that fits your needs and size. And will have quality components that won't be cheap and crappy and need replacement.

if you buy one used then that takes care of the problems usually because the prior owner fixed them. also if your handy buy a 'broken' ccm for 10 dollars and fix it and you have a 50 dollar bike with new parts in it
